OSAA boys cross country championships recap - OregonLive.com

EUGENE -- If it were up to the Jesuit boys cross country team, no individual names would be needed to recount its OSAA Class 6A championship Saturday.

In fact, the five Crusaders runners who placed in the top 10 -- in a span of 10.4 seconds -- probably wouldn't mind being referred to simply by their bib numbers: 934, 933, 932, 936 and 935.

There's a common belief in the Jesuit program that no one deserves special treatment.

"We always run in a pack," junior Ben Demaree said. "We train by that mentality, we live by that mentality, and we plan our strategies around that mentality."

Jesuit senior Andy Kiyokawa broke free from the pack -- almost reluctantly, he said -- near the end of Saturday's 5,000-meter race at Lane Community College and placed third in 16 minutes, 4.6 seconds. He was followed by Demaree (fourth, 16:05.3), senior Christian Burger (fifth, 16:07.0), junior Willie Milam (sixth, 16:10.0) and senior Patrick Maag (10th, 16:15.0).
